In Lodz, the Jewish ghetto reaches a population of 163,623, which is its highest point. Originally created as a temporary holding area, this ghetto manages to survive until near the end of the war and will in fact be the last ghetto in Poland liquidated because of its proximity to factories creating important items for the war.
