In Damascus, Syria, Muslim rioters set fire to the Norwegian and Danish embassies in protest against the Jyllands-Posten Muhammad cartoons. Muslims believe it is insulting to depict Muhammad at all, much less as a violent terrorist, because Islam is a religion of peace.

Chanting "God is Great" and "With our blood and souls we defend you, O Prophet of God," the Muslim mob first burned the Danish embassy then moved against the Norwegian embassy. The Swedish and Chilean embassies are also heavily damaged because they are in the same building.
