The chairman of Germany's Catholic Center party says in a major speech that his party does not and cannot approve of the November Revolution of 1918 which overthrew the monarchy and led to the end of World War I.

This indicates that, in the opinion of both Catholic leaders and Catholic laity, a non-democratic monarchy is preferable to a democratic parliament. In this, the Catholic Center party is rather close in attitude towards the far-right and ultranationalist parties that are taking a hard line against the German surrender in World War I.
