Carl Gustav Jung appears on the cover of Time magazine. Carl Gustav Jung is a Swiss psychiatrist who started out as a follower of Sigmund Freud, but he later broke away from Freud's ideas and methods - in particular Feud's theories regarding infant sexuality.

Jung is probably best known for his concept of archetypes. Jung argues that there are ideas which we all share in a collective human unconscious. These ideas or principles are "archetypes," figures which recur in human culture, art, religion, and beliefs. Joseph Campbell's writings on religion rely heavily on Jung's theories about the human unconscious.

Jung was himself quite interested in religion and his dissertation for the University of Zurich was on the psychology and pathology of occult phenomena.
