Official Breslau Diocese Publication: Germany in Holy Struggle for Lebensraum

The official diocese publication in Breslau, where Cardinal Adolf Bertram is archbishop, claims that Germany is engaged in a "holy struggle not for the mere reconquest and repossession of stolen territories, but for the highest on earth: life in accordance with God's commands."

Germany's current struggle is a struggle for "self-preservation" and for a "just distribution of necessary Lebensraum." The belief that an unprovoked war of aggression is not merely sanctioned by God, but is in fact willed by God, may be one reason why the Catholic episcopate in Germany exhibits no real concern with the widespread persecution of Polish Catholics and Jews.
