The state legislature in South Dakota passes a bill that would outlaw almost any form of abortion. It defines life as beginning "at the time of conception." The point is to give full legal rights and status to any fertilized egg.

Under this law, abortion in South Dakota would only be permitted when necessary to save a woman's life. If any doctor performs an abortion for any other reason, they can be charged with a felony. The woman getting an abortion, however, would not be subject to any criminal charges.
