President George W. Bush announces that he supports a constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage. He does not specifically endorse the wording proposed by Representative Marilyn Musgrave which would interfere with states' rights by preventing them from recognizing same-sex civil unions and domestic partnerships on their own.

However, George W. Bush does say that the wording of Musgrave's amendment "meets his principles" in protecting the "sanctity of marriage" between men and women.
