George Herbert Mead is born in South Hadley, Massachusetts. George Herbert Mead will become one of America's most important and leading exponents of Pragmatism, as well as an important figure in the field of Social Psychology.

As a social behaviorist, George Herbert Mead will argue that it is possible to explain human behavior as a product of social interactions with social contexts. Language, for example, is inherently social in nature which means that it is not simply used socially, but also that its existence and the meanings it conveys are based on the social contexts in which we human beings have developed.

George Herbert Mead will also argue that our sense of "self" is necessarily social in nature because we develop our selfhood through social processes and social interactions.
