Because of his widespread popular support, Major General Mohammed Naguib is restored to the post of President of Egypt; Lieutenant Colonel Gamal Nasser remains Premier. Colonel Nasser had kidnapped Naguib just a couple of days previously in order to seize power for himself.

Muhammad Naguib is very popular with the people, however, and pressure from the public leads to pressure from the Revolutionary Command Council to reinstate Naguib. Nasser reluctantly agrees, but an assassination attempt on him later this year gives him the ability to impose a massive political crackdown, removing Naguib once and for all.
