Ann Lee, founder of the Shaker movement in America, is born in Manchester, England.

Ann Lee will come to be known as "Mother Ann" by the United Society of Believers in Christ's Second Coming, better known as Shakers because of the ritual dancing, known as "shaking" which is believed to be produced from spirit possession.

The doctrine taught by Ann Lee to the Shakers will be focused on communal living, celibacy, and simplicity.
