Speaking at the 15th annual synod of the Province of New York, New Jersey and Puerto Rico of the Protestant Episcopal Church, Rev. Charles Fiske, Bishop of Central New York, criticizes American society where God is conceived as a "magnified Rotarian" and "sanctified commercialism" is practiced as if it were Christianity.

Bishop Fiske says:

"There are almost no true Christians in the world today. Our people are spiritually and morally adrift, without any clear guiding principles of faith or of conduct.

They see tolerated and excused by people of perfectly good standing, some of them in fact call themselves Christians, things which true Christians will unhesitatingly condemn."
