In Austin, Texas, William J. Murray files a petition with the courts to become guardian of the estates of his mother, Madalyn Murray-O'Hair, her granddaughter Robin Murray-O'Hair, and her other son Jon Garth Murray. All three disappeared in September, 1995, and haven't been seen since.

William J. Murray was the subject of the infamous 1963 case in which the U.S. Supreme Court outlawed states writing prayers, mandating prayers, or setting aside special time for prayer in public schools. Murray has since become a conservative evangelical Christian who regrets his role in that case - he now wishes that Christian would be promoted and endorsed by the states in government schools.

Murray will drop this petition at the end of the month, saying that it is too costly to pursue.
