Philosopher Friedrich Schelling is born in Leonberg, Germany. Schelling will help develop the German philosophy of idealism, though he will be overshadowed by his university roommate Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel.

One reason for this, according to many scholars, is that Friedrich Schelling's works are far less systematic than that of other philosophers, like Hegel, thus making his ideas not only difficult to understand but also difficult to categorize. It's felt that he jumps around too much, not spending enough time on any one subject to fully explore it.
