Menno Simons dies in Wüsterfelde. Born in 1496, Menno Simons was an Anabaptist religious leader whose followers continue to be known as Mennonites. Menno Simons was at one point a Roman Catholic priest but he began to question many of the church's doctrines when they appeared to be poorly supported in the biblical text.

Menno Simons eventually concluded that there was no biblical warrant for infant baptism and people should instead be baptized as adults, after they can make a free choice to go through the ritual.
