Paul Davis Ryan is born in Janesville, Wisconsin to a Roman Catholic family. His father dies when he is just 16 years old, providing him with Social Security survivor's benefits which he saves in order to pay for college.

While attending Miami University, in Oxford, Ohio Paul Ryan studies economics and political science and focuses on the ideas of conservative, libertarian writers like Friedrich Hayek, Ludwig von Mises, and Milton Friedman. Politically, he will extreme libertarianism with extreme conservatism, depending on what the situation is. What makes this difficult is that his Randian libertarianism is atheistic but his social conservatism is, at least in principle, right-wing Catholic.

As an ardent devotee of Ayn Rand and her Objectivist philosophy, Ryan will enter politics with an agenda that revolves around attacking government programs — in particular, those programs which are designed to serve the needs of the poorest Americans.

At the same time, Paul Ryan abandons any hint of libertarianism when it comes to issues like abortion. His extreme "pro-life" ideology would criminalize abortion under absolutely any situation, even rape, incest, and to save the life of the mother. As a cosponsor of the Sanctity of Life Act, he will argue that fertilized eggs "shall have all the legal and constitutional attributes and privileges of personhood."
