Boniface IV is elected pope. A monk prior to his election, Boniface IV will continue living as a monk while pope — even converting his papal residence into a monastery.

Like his predecessor Gregory the Great (also a monk, and in fact the first monk ever to be elected as pope), Pope Boniface IV will favor monasticism and monks throughout his papacy.
