Saladin Accepts Surrender of Ascalon

The city of Ascalon surrenders to Saladin and Muslim forces re-establish control over the region. Soon Saladin will also control the cities of Nablus, Jaffa, Toron, Sidon, Gaza, and Ramala, completing a ring around his ultimate goal: Jerusalem.

Saladin will begin his siege of Jerusalem in two weeks; while the city's defenses are strong enough to keep him at bay, the city's defenders will not be strong enough to drive him away and they will be forced to surrender.
