Sigmund Freud receives an honorary doctor of law degree from Clark University, the only honorary degree he will ever receive. Freud is at Clark University to give five lectures on psychoanalysis.

This is Freud's first trip to America and is providing him with the first public, popular recognition of his work. It will go a long way to making him famous in America, though there is extensive criticism from the scholars who attend because they see a lack of scientific rigor and support in the claims Freud has been making.
