British Mandate of Palestine: The British begin the civil administration of the areas known as Palestine and Transjordan, which were carved out of Ottoman Southern Syria in the wake of World War I.

The Ottoman Empire has been in control of the Middle East since the 16th century, and the League of Nations has authorized the victorious powers of World War I to administer territory taken from the Ottomans.
