Marcel Lefebvre is ordained a priest by Bishop (soon to be Cardinal) Achille Liénart in Lille, France. Lefebvre has been studying for the priesthood at the French Seminary in Rome; after his ordination, he will return there to complete a doctorate in theology.

Marcel Lefebvre will break with Rome following the Second Vatican Council because he objects to the many reforms the council creates. Over the years, he will consecrate hundreds of priests who agree with his traditionalist views. This creates the first real schism in the Roman Catholic Church since 1870.
