Alan Dershowitz is born in Brooklyn, New York, to an Orthodox Jewish family. He later becomes part of a Conservative Jewish group and eventually identifies as a secular Jew.

Although a rebellious student when young, Alan Dershowitz will excel at law and even serves as editor-in-chief of the Yale Law Journal; later, he'll become the youngest person ever to be made a full professor of law at Harvard.

Most of Alan Dershowitz's legal career, aside from teaching, will be taken up with criminal law and civil liberties. Some of his clients will include Patty Hearst, Leona Helmsley, Jim Bakker, Mike Tyson, and O.J. Simpson. In fact, he will even say that he prefers to take the most challenging cases and seems to enjoy being a "lawyer of last resort" — the person you go to when no one else will touch you.
