Dr. John Sutherland, a Presbyterian pastor from New York City, returns from a trip to Europe and tells people that the state of religious freedom is far worse in Catholic Spain than it is in communist Czechoslovakia.

According to Sutherland, the "saddest spot in Europe with respect to religious freedom is Spain." He adds that "as a Protestant clergyman I would prefer today to be preaching in Prague behind the Iron Curtain than in any city in Spain."

Dr. Sutherland reports that Protestant churches in Spain have been destroyed and that pastoral letters from Catholic archbishops denounce Protestant ministers as "fomenters of atheism and disloyal to Spain."
