Anis Mansour, editor of the Cairo newspaper Al Akhbar, criticizes the Russian cosmonauts for being atheists and for giving thanks to Russian scientists for their ability to go into space and return.

According to Mansour, the thanks should go to God instead.

Anis Mansour writes:

"As for God, the Russians simply say they did not see Him when they went into space. I say they are naive, ignorant, and influenced by a way of thinking which is other than their own. ...I say [Yuri] Gagarin and his friends did not alone achieve the orbiting of the Earth. ...

I am sure that while Gagarin and his friends deny the existence of God, the scientists who made the great achievement possible do believe in God."
