In a newspaper story about her work on behalf of equal rights for atheists and church/state separation, Madalyn Murray-O'Hair is quoted as saying that there isn't even a little bit of good in religion.

According to Madalyn Murray-O'Hair:

"Marx was right, religion is the opiate of the people. Look at the poor and sick — they cling to their rosary beads and their pictures of the Madonna. And what does it get them? Only poorer and sicker.

I can't buy it. I can't see even a little good in this kind of faith, because it would be like saying there is a little good in everything — Nazism, prejudice, or murder.

No. Religion is simple fraud. The sooner everyone realizes it, the better."
