As a precondition to a restoration of diplomatic relations with Great Britain, the Iranian government public commits that it will "neither support nor hinder assassination operations on Rushdie."

This does not mean that the fatwa against Salman Rushdie has been or will be revoked. On the contrary, in Iran the only person who can revoke a fatwa is the one who issued it, and since Ayatollah Khomeini is dead, the fatwa will never be revoked.
