In an email interview, S.E. Cupp (Sarah Elizabeth Cupp) describes 'militant atheism' as an 'accepted practice' that Americans will one day look back upon and regret, rather like novelty ties.

What's a common and accepted practice for Americans nowadays that you think we'll look back on with regret?

Militant atheism … and novelty ties.

S.E. Cupp is herself an atheist — in a 2009 interview she said "I have been an atheist for quite a while." However, she also appears to be a self-loathing atheist. She has declared more than once that she wouldn't vote for an atheist for president because religious theism keeps a person honest. She's also said more than once that she "envies" religious people and "envies" the faithful.
